- Turn on computer.
- Turn on speaker switch.
- Turn on cameras, switch is in the back.
- At prompt, press Control, Alt, Delete.
[your NCSA signon name]
[your NCSA password]
- Click on “Start PIG.”
- Move icons from left to center monitor (optional).
- Four grey boxes come up and overlap each other. There is nothing
you have to do with these.
Minimize them so they continue to run in the background. Do not
close them.
- Click on “Virtual Venues.”
- Click on “Log in to non-secured Venues pages.” (Matt is not certain
what the difference is between secured and non-secured but non-secured
is fine.)
- Register (first time only)
- Then “log in” at prompt.
- Click “Enter the AG.”
- First time only, “sign in” name and email in grey box. You can sign
in your own name or sign in “NCSA”. That title will identify your site
name at the top of the video window.
- “Access Grid Lobby” grey box gives all the existing AG and PIG nodes.
AG etiquette: Before you meet with another person, call ahead and find
out the time you will meet and the name of the venue, e.g., Jack Frost,
institution, and so forth. From the Access Grid Lobby, click on that
venue and you are in.
- There may be multiple windows running. Type a number (2-8) to make
up to 8 columns. It is easier to view the nodes with at least 2 columns.
- If you receive error reports at any time on the screen, click “Refresh”
and the program will reset itself.
Controlling video
Once you are in your venue and see the site, you can enlarge the video
picture. Move the video window to the left monitor. The default size
is medium. Type “s” to make the picture smaller, “m” to make it medium
size, or “l” to make the picture large. You can change the size at any
time. There is a video window for each camera. You can have 2 medium
video windows up or whatever configuration you wish.
Controlling Audio
RAT is the audio grey box. To talk, click on arrow in the upper right hand
portion until you see “line-in”. Then click the “Talk” button. To mute,
toggle “Talk” so check mark disappears.
Sending a typed message
There is a “tk MOO” grey box. Click on this to send a typed message. A prompt
appears at the bottom of the box on one line. Text comes up at the other
screen regardless of whether it is an AG node site or another PIG node site.
This is a useful device if you cannot hear them or want to send a question
or comment without disturbing the conversation.
There are more features with the audio option not covered here that Matt
can demonstrate.
